Kitchen Assistant

CASS Care Ltd is a multi-disciplined community services provider active in the provision of a comprehensive range of social welfare services, catering the needs from cradle to seniors, including child care, aged care, settlement and health, vocational and disability services and many more community-based services. We are seeking enthusiastic and highly skilled person to fill the above position in our child care services.


Position Summary:

Gumnut at Forum Early Learning Centre is a community-based long day care centre operated by CASS Care Ltd.  It provides service for children between 6 weeks and 5 years of age. The role of Kitchen Assistant is to prepare healthy food for the children attending the Service from Monday to Friday and to meet all food handling and hygiene practice requirements and standards indicated in the National Quality Framework. The role is primarily based in the specified centre but may also be required to work temporarily in other work sites.


Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Checking the food delivery and preparing food for morning/afternoon tea and lunch;

  2. Following the appropriate food storage practices, such as checking and recording the temperature of the food delivered and storing the food in the fridge, making sure there is no cross contamination during the food temperature measurement;

  3. Heating up the food, checking the right temperature and serving it in the room according to the routine;

  4. Washing morning and lunch dishes;

  5. Organising the laundry, including placing the dirty laundry in the washing machine, unloading the dry laundry from the dryer, etc.;

  6. Cleaning the food preparation equipment, floors and other kitchen tools or areas;

  7. Ensure that the kitchen is hygienically clean and the floor mopped when necessary;

  8. Disposing of rubbish;

  9. Ensure the correct food handling processes and food storage practices are followed, and personal hygiene and food hygiene are maintained all the time.


Selection Criteria:


  • Food Handling Certificate (to be renewed every 3 years);

  • Current First Aid, Asthma and Anaphylaxis Management Training certificates;

  • Working with Children Check;

  • Experience in child care setting;

  • Commitment to working as a team;

  • Mature and responsible attitude towards work;

  • Good interpersonal skill;

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.​



  • Certificate III in Early Childhood Education



Discount child care fees are available for CASS’s long day care, before and after school, and vacation care services.
